As we return to school, we recognize national SMART Week (August 25-29), because one of the smartest things adults can do to keep kids, classrooms, and communities safe from gun violence is raise awareness about secure gun storage.

SMART Week is all about educating communities on the simple steps that everyone — gun owners and non-gun owners alike — can take right now to prevent gun violence:

Secure all guns in homes and vehicles
Model responsible behavior around guns
Ask about the presence of unsecured firearms in other homes your child visits
Recognize the role of guns in suicide
Tell your peers to Be SMART

Questions about firearm safety in our school and community can go to the PTO civics and safety committee: safety@harperpto.com.

Keep Kids Safe! Everyone benefits from a safe and orderly drop-off & dismissal system. Please familiarize yourself and others who assist in picking up your child by reviewing these guidelines.

Please note, all drivers must enter the carpool line (Dartmouth Avenue) from Kenilworth Ave.

Walking/Biking/Scooters:

We encourage families to practice the route to Harper before the start of school as well as how to park their bike or scooter safely in the bike and scooter racks. Bikes and scooters are not allowed to be parked on the sidewalks or north field walkway.

This is also the perfect time to practice locking up bikes and scooters. Make sure your student knows how to use the lock and remember any combination. Safety is our number one priority and we highly recommend locking up modes of transportation. Bikes and scooters should never be left at Harper overnight. Harper is not liable for any missing bike or scooter.

Scooters and E-Scooters must also follow the biking rules. Bikes and scooters must be walked when on the sidewalk in front of Harper for everyone's safety.

We also recommend that parents/guardians accompany our youngest students to begin the school year.
